Human Elements Exhibition

Start Date: 29 March 2014

End Date: 23 April 2014

Human Elements - an exhibition of the vibrant paintings and prints of Judy Trescatharic (Slack)

Saturday March 29th - Wednesday April 23th 2014 in the Gallery at the Storey on the first floor.

1975 and The Storey Institute mark the start of a journey towards abstract art for undergraduate figurative painter, Judy Slack. Almost forty years later with art work based on aspects of the human condition, artist Judy Trescatheric returns to The Storey with ‘Human Elements’, a powerful and vibrant exhibition of 70 paintings and prints.

Judith Trescatheric said: “This is a unique exhibition of around 70 paintings about a journey, not so much in miles but more in aesthetic development, from figurative painting towards abstract art and depicting the heavier side of life and love.

She also added: “The exhibition will be set up to show the four stages of the journey towards abstraction:

1. The student years at The Storey: with a personal symbolism based on aspects of the female condition from a young person’s stance. Figures and birds are symbolic elements expressing an internal world of feeling and ideas, experience and imagination.

2. ‘The Fractals’: where the image has been fragmented and reassembled. Sometimes based on social themes of the times such as the miners’ conflict.

3. The visual power, beauty and mythology of the coastal landscape of North West Britain including Morecambe Bay.

4. The late years of semi-abstraction and loose figuration. Still telling personal human stories with meaning but shrouded in mystery through layers of paint with vital areas revealed.

Underlying any possible disquiet in the imagery is the long held belief that the

human spirit will always prevail.”

Launch event on Friday 28th March    7 - 8.30pm
